Success Favours the Brave

With the start of the Flemington Spring Carnival only days away, stables are busy preparing their runners in the hope that they will etch their names into the history books. Kavanagh Racing has a handful of very talented horses heading into the major races this week and we couldn’t be more excited.

He Is, a Derby contender for this year’s AMMI Victoria Derby will carry the hopes and dreams of many into the race and give Jewel Racing and his owners the thrill of a lifetime.

Trainer Mark Kavanagh is positive about the colt and is thrilled with his condition leading into one of the biggest days in racing.

He Is has recovered well and looks set for Saturday’s big assignment. His coat is gleaming and is in fabulous condition. He has taken no harm from his unlucky run last start, and we are delighted to be an accepter in the Derby.  We are pleased to confirm Dean Yendall will take the ride,” Kavanagh said.

“I worked him Tuesday morning for the first time with the blinkers on, and he was sensational. I know it is a huge call putting the blinkers on first time in a Derby, but as they say, success favours the brave.”

He Is has raced on six occasions, with a solid win in Echuca fresh up after his spell, where he kicked away at the 200 metres and was strong to the line. Catching the eye of a few clever form analysts when an unlucky fifth behind Secret Liaison over 1600 metres at Caulfield, he then raced at Geelong in the Listed Geelong Classic over 2200 metres where he was bumped on several occasions.

He Is, sired by Pierro out of the Group 1 winning Favelon mare, She’s Not, was an astute $110,000 purchase from the Bowness draft, out of the Inglis Classic yearling sale. She’s Not is a sister to She’s Meaner and is a half-sister to Group 2 winning Sun Stud stallion Love Concours All.

Purchased and syndicated by Jewel Racing, a Flemington based syndication company that offer shares in high-quality bloodstock handpicked by the trainer. With affordability a key criterion, they ensure all bloodstock are purchased at the right price and this fella was no exception.

Unlike other syndication companies, there is no mark-up on Jewel Racing horses, and a monthly fee is set at $249.00 per 5% share to cover all associated training costs.

Next year Jewel Racing will be buying at all of the major sales, so please register your interest if you want to be playing on the main stage at Australia’s greatest race meetings.

Mark also saddles up Eales Racing Group 1 Kennedy Oaks hopeful Vegas Jewel in the Group 2 G.H. Mumm Wakeful Stakes over 2000m on Saturday.
