Speedy filly Wild Rain beats the heat to notch city success

Manhattan Rain filly Wild Rain graduated to city class and notched the stables first win for 2015 when successful at Moonee Valley on Saturday January 3.

Hot and humid conditions confronted the field of fillies despite the race meeting being re-scheduled as a twilight meeting to coincide with an anticipated cool change. That change was yet to arrive when Wild Rain took the field but the oppressive conditions did not seem to deter the filly who won in a display of controlled speed.

An all the way winner by 8 lengths at her previous start Wild Rain and jockey Damian Lane instead took a sit behind leader Witless and Oridane.

Lane sent Wild Rain after Witless rounding the home turn and claimed that filly with a hundred to run. It was a hard fought victory but in the end Wild Rain edged away with a half length margin separating the pair with Simply You one and three quarter lengths away in third.

Wild Rain was purchased as a yearling at the 2013 Gold Coast Magic Millions by trainer Mark Kavanagh. She is raced in partnership by Isobel & Levi Kavanagh, Brett Griffith & Tim Storey of Collins St Partners, Wade McKibben, Anna Stenswick's DTTM Syndicate, Stan & Anna Hunt and Gary and Rhonda Ma.
