Horrifying's Derby Chance

Horrifying takes part in the Group 1 Queensland Derby at Eagle Farm on Saturday. He has drawn barrier 12 and with inform jockey Jamie Kah in the saddle, has every chance.

He flew to Queensland on Tuesday following his exciting win at Flemington last Saturday in the Off The Track Community Trophy over 2000m. Horrifying appreciated the wide-open spaces of Flemington and his trainer Mark Kavanagh said the three-year-old will appreciate the step up to the 2400m of tomorrows Derby. Adding, he may even appreciate stepping out to run over two miles, the trip his sire Shocking won the Melbourne Cup over.

Horrifying who also races in Eales Racing Syndications black and orange colours (same as Shocking) will attempt to go one better than his father did in the 2009 Queensland Derby when he ran second to Court Ruler.

Jamie Kah who has ridden Horrifying in all his races this preparation flew to Queensland after fulfilling her rides at Sandown on Wednesday. Lucky for Jamie and everyone else who flew into Queensland on or before Wednesday, they do not have to quarantine.

Mark Kavanagh was not so lucky. Mark and Isobel flew to Queensland on Thursday afternoon only to be told upon landing that they have to quarantine for seven days as per Victoria’s Covid lockdown requirements. They have since returned to Melbourne and will have to watch the race from home.

Horrifying has settled in well at Eagle Farm. He had access to the course proper on Thursday for his final gallop in preparation for tomorrow. Long-time Kavanagh Racing employee Glen Sams is taking care of Horrifying whilst he is in Queensland and will strap him for his grand final on Saturday.
